Clean Monday
Yesterday i went to Atsipopoulo, a pretty village near Rethymnon, to celebrate "Kathari Deutera", literally Clean Monday, at a friend's family house. "Kathari Deutera" is the equivalent of Mardi Gras or fat Tuesday, all kinds od work are prohibited, we only eat seafood (like this magnificent lobster spaggeti) and we fast meat, eggs, milk etc.
It is, also, the first day of the season of Great Lent, known as Saracosti (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Lent) which leads to the Greek Orthodox Easter, this year on April the 8th, which is THE most important religious date for Greeks and a beautiful time of the year to visit Crete!!!!!

Inspiring photos, feels like we are there. Wish we were. However, we are here in Montreal, bracing for a winter storm that promises 20-40 cm of snow withing 24 hours. I guess it will look "clean" all right with all that snow.
So I hope that you can accomodate us for July 25th!!
Kind regards, Stella and Jacques
